It is commonly known that language always changes. These changes can be observed from the variations that people use in social interaction. One significant factor that has been influencing the changes is people’s high mobility. Furthermore, language develops in line with its functions to convey people’s expressions, either in spoken, written, or sign language. Development of information and communication technology, as well as language policies, enriches the registers. These language changes and development correlate with the development of studies in sociolinguistics and dialectology.
International Seminar on Sociolinguistics and Dialectology is a forum for sharing knowledge on recent studies on language change and development in social life. This year, the theme of the seminar is “Changes and Development of Language in Social Life”. The seminar is organized by Department of Linguistics Faculty of Humanities Universitas Indonesia in collaboration with Masyarakat Linguistik Indonesia (Linguistic Society of Indonesia).
